Mute Swans, first swim Leith, Edinburgh, Scotland

Shore, Leith, Edinburgh, Scotland, UK. 24 May 2023. I felt blessed this morning to witness the first swim for Mute Swan Cygnets from their nest situated on the Water of Leith. After a cold early morning breeze the sunshine shifted round to warm up the mother Mute Swan and her cygnets and after a litte preparation of moving twigs around perhaps to assist the entry and return to the water at 11.05am she led eight of the nine cygnets in to the water for the first time. The one left behind was only born this morning. After exactly 10 minutes she led the youngsters back to the nest. The final 5 images here were taken at an earlier visit on the same day before the introduction to the water.
